MUHYIDDIN ON WORLD CLASS EDUCATION

May 10, 2011

BAGAN DATOH, May 7 (Bernama) -- The national education system can be regarded as world class when it can produce students able to use a new approach to acquire knowledge instead of depending on normal methods, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Saturday.

He said this objective could be achieved through the transformation in education now undertaken with an approach that focussed on opening the minds of students to make them creative and innovative.

"When normal schooling can be stabilised through a transformation programme in line with the making of a progressive high-income nation, we hope to produce students who can think independently, and this is a characteristic of a world class education system, he said.

He was speaking at the presentation of Curricular, Co-curricular and Personality Excellence Awards 2011 at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Abdul Razak Selekoh here.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said that achievement of this goal would require the commitment of the students, parents, teachers and all involved in the national education system.
